No Gym? No Turf? No Sled? NO PROBLEM.
In February of 2023, upon hearing of the benefits of dragging a sled backwards via Ben Patrick of ATG, I put together a $30 DIY training sled with my then 7 year old son. Hands down that has been the greatest ROI on any equipment we have in our home garage gym. The DIY sled was PERFECT…when it wasn’t pouring rain. Can we brave it, “gird up our loins” and go to work in the rain? Yes. Is it ideal? Not really. Personally, my wife and I have been out there with those sleds in the rain (where it rains 8 months out of the year here in Oregon) and single digit 5am temperatures, not fun but doable. I was struggling to ask my clients to do the same though, especially on the other side of coin when those 90 degree summers pop up here in the Pacific Northwest.
We looked at different sled options from Rogue and Torque Fitness but the cost and the potential noise from metal on concrete wasn’t super appealing. It wasn’t until I had a two and half hour phone call with a now great brother in Christ, Nick Reiherzer AKA Over the Hill Hooper on Instagram, that I saw a solution to my problems.
The Tib Bar Guy’s SledTred.
The SledTred has a been a game changer for us. It’s not only allowed us to get “sled” work without the worry of loading weight or dealing with weather, but it can actually create MORE work because there’s no need to turn around. You’re able to go backward, forward and even a standard walk if you wanted to. There’s a “power tower,” dip bar and a host of other possible attachments available as well. The best of all it doesn’t take up much space at all. We have two in our standard three car garage and there’s plenty of space for other equipment as well. If you’re looking to upgrade your home gym in an efficient way, I highly recommend the SledTred if you’re looking to level up your own training, or those you may work with as well.
